It’s safe to state that almost everything we put into our mouth contains some kind of toxin. On top of that, we breathe and inhale a large quantity of chemicals and toxins found in the air around us. With that in mind, there should be a way for us to help our body cleanse and get rid of the toxins and chemicals that are brought about by everyday living as these toxins and chemicals may cause dangerous and chronic illnesses.

The best way to remove the chemicals and toxins inside our bodies is body detox. Everyone in this world of nutrition and diet are actually aiming to become physically healthy. Acupuncturists believe that our body can maintain its energy balance for proper functioning. Moreover, the temperature for saunas exceeds 80? C which causes relaxation and sweating that leads to release of toxins as well through perspiration.

Detox Diets

The most common method of detoxifying is water fasting which consists of 8 to 10 glasses of water per day. Tea is also used an alternative but without a sweetener. Another alternative can be is lemon juice which is a good alternative to water. It also provides the nutrients that are needed in the detoxifying process.

Another effective detox diet to help cleanse the body is the . Raw fruits and vegetables have high content of fiber and eating lots of them can help detox the digestive tract. Suggested consumption is raw fruits in the morning and vegetables for lunch and dinner. For faster and more effective detox, consume the fruits and vegetables raw or slightly cooked. Make sure they are cleaned properly or are organic food if you plan to eat them raw. Find out how to successfully undergo a detox diet.

Vitamins and Herbal Medicines

Getting the body cleansed can also be done through taking vitamins and herbal supplements. Vitamins that contain Alpha Lipoic Acid/Q10 coenzyme and Choline are good antioxidants. The coenzyme like Q10 coenzyme, on the other hand, is a great electron transporter that is created in our body. This makes it an antioxidant and a dietary supplement too. Moreover, Alpha Lipoic Acid can lessen the signs of vitamin deficiencies. Their derivative called the dihydrolipoic acid helps restore antioxidants like glutathione, vitamin C and E. It also improves our memory and lessens the possibility of Alzheimer?s and Parkinson?s disease.

In the world today, body detoxing is becoming a necessity rather than as a choice. It is usually accessible to almost everyone because it can work with no cost at all. The only thing that is important to make it successful is an organized schedule and the body?s ability to follow the habit. If you keep on doing these, your body will become healthier and revitalized with enhanced energy.

Food Guide Pyramid

Once you have gone through a detox program of any type, it is necessary to try to bring your body back to its healthiest state. In order to do this, you need to maintain proper nutrition as well as follow a balanced dietary program that includes which should be in regards to the food guide pyramid plan as proposed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

A long time ago, the U.S. Department of Agriculture created a powerful change to the nutritional values we used to live by. Do you recall the four food groups guide? Well it has been upgraded to the Food Guide Pyramid. This simple picture was used to show you what the USDA said were the elements of a .

This pyramid was proven to be too generalized to be of any real use. It was certainly not right for every person to follow as some people are on strict diets, such as diabetics. Personally, I miss the simple pictures that showed you the four food groups because they were so much easier. The picture below shows the food guide pyramid.

This is the old food Guide Pyramid, provided by the U.S. Department of Agriculture

The old food guide pyramid has fortunately been replaced with the “My Pyramid” plan, which is almost exactly like the food guide pyramid but it is meant to help each individual to base the foods they eat on their own body’s needs and not so generalized as the one shown above. Even if it is flawed it still gives you the basics of healthy and nutritional eating to get all of your vitamins from . That is what you and your body will need if you are to get to you best health levels after a detox plan has been implemented.

Experts agree that the key to healthy eating is the time-tested advice of balance, variety and moderation. Basically what this means is that eating a wide variety of foods without getting too many calories or too much of any one nutrient is best for you to maintain the best possible health and weight. Here are 10 tips that can help you follow that advice while still enjoying the foods you eat.

1. Eat a variety of foods that are high in nutrients for the best results. You need more than 40 different nutrients for balanced and good health, and no single food supplies them all. Your daily food choices should include a selection of natural bread and other whole-grain products; such as fruits; vegetables; dairy products; and meat, poultry, fish and other protein foods. How much you should eat depends on your own specific calorie needs. Use the “My pyramid” for guidance as well as the Nutrition Facts panel on food labels as handy references.

2. You need to eat plenty of whole grains, fruits and vegetables. Recent studies and surveys show that most Americans don’t eat enough of these foods sue to fad diets and rapid detoxes. You should eat 6-11 servings from the bread, rice, and cereal and pasta group, which will help you get your whole grains.

3. Maintain a healthy weight with regular exercise and daily activity. The weight that’s right for you depends on many factors including your sex, height, age and genetics so don’t let magazines set your own standards. Excess body fat will increase your chances for high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, diabetes, some types of cancer and other illnesses. Realize that being too thin can give you osteoporosis, menstrual problems and other health problems. If you’re constantly fluctuating your weight you will need to get the help of a dietician. Regular exercise is also important to maintaining a healthy weight.

4. Eat moderately sized portions. If you keep portion sizes reasonable, it’s easier to eat the foods you want to eat and still stay perfectly healthy. Did you know the recommended serving of cooked meat is 3 ounces, which is a lot like a half of a sandwich? A medium piece of fruit is 1 serving and a cup of pasta equals 2 servings. A pint of ice cream contains 4 servings.

5. Eat your meals regularly. Skipping meals can lead to out-of-control binging. When you’re very hungry, it’s also tempting to forget about good nutrition and run off and eat whatever is closest to you. Snacking between meals can help curb hunger, but don’t eat so much that your snack becomes an entire meal.

6. There are some foods that you should slow down on but you do not need to get rid of. Most people eat for fun as well as nutrition. If your favorite foods are high in fat, salt or sugar, the key to keeping them in your diet is to moderate how much of these foods you eat and how often you eat them. You will need to learn how to identify where they are coming from and make the necessary changes. Adults who eat high-fat meats or whole-milk dairy products at every meal are probably eating too much fat and should chill out a bit. It is wise for you to opt for skim or low-fat dairy products and lean cuts of meat such as flank steak and beef round which can reduce fat intake significantly if you prone to eat these types of foods regularly. If you love fried foods, however, you don’t have to give it up. Just eat it less often. When you are dining out, share it with a friend, and be sure to ask for a take-home bag or a smaller portion.

7. Balance your food choices over a certain time period. Not everything that you eat has to be a perfect choice. When you are eating a food high in fat, salt or sugar, select other foods that are low in these ingredients. If you miss out on any food group one day, make up for it the next day. Your food choices over many days should fit together into a healthy pattern.

8. Know what your diet pitfalls are. If you want to improve your eating habits, you will first have to know what’s wrong with them in the first place. Write down everything you eat for three days. Then check your list according to the rest of the tips that are listed here.

9. Make changes to your diet gradually and don’t rush yourself. Just as there are no easy answers to a healthy diet, don’t expect to totally revamp your eating habits overnight because that just isn’t realistic. Changing too much, too fast can get in the way of your success. Begin to remedy your problem habits with modest changes that can add up to positive, lifelong eating habits.

10. Remember, foods are not good or bad. You need to take the time to select the foods you choose to eat based on your total eating patterns, not whether any individual food is good or not good. You should never feel guilty if you love foods like cake, potato chips, candy bars or ice cream. Eat them in moderation, and choose other foods to provide the balance and variety that are vital to good health.

The USDA pyramid should show the nutrition advice put together in the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. According to the USDA, the guidelines are there to provide advice for people two years and older about how good dietary habits can promote health and reduce risk for major chronic diseases.

Something can be done about it

I have been researching and nutrition for several years. Sometimes I forget that most people are not aware that there is an entire school of healing that believes that regardless of your health, there is always something that can be done about it and naturally! For example, taught that health could be regained through the use of the Master Cleanse; VitaFlex, which shares similar principles with reflexology; and a vegetarian diet.

He has certainly not been alone in this belief. Henry Bieler, MD, practiced medicine for more than 50 years and summarized his approach in his book, Food is Your Best Medicine. Two of his most famous patients were Gloria Swanson and Great Garbo, the Paris Hilton and Madonna of his time.

Norman Walker, D.Sc. (an advanced science degree like Ph.D.) was the man who invented the therapeutic juicer to achieve his results and was internationally famous for using nutrition and cleanses. (He required colonics for his patients.) He wrote several books, including Become Younger, Fresh Vegetable and Fruit Juices: What’s Missing in Your Body?, and The Vegetarian Guide to Diet and Salad. His juicer, by the way, is one of only two that were approved by Max Gerson, MD, who treated cancer, tuberculosis, and other degenerative diseases by including juicing in his regimen as early as 1948!

Herbert M. Shelton, Ph.D., founder of the School of Natural Hygiene, cured tens of thousands of people using fasting and other natural means to restore health. His writings can be seen on the Internet.

Joel Fuhrman, MD, author of Eat to Live, Fasting-And Eating-For Health, and Disease-Proof Your Child: Feeding Kids Right, promotes a regimen of mostly , vegetarian diet and occasionally fasting to cure patients of diabetes, and other degenerative diseases.

The China Study: The Most Comprehensive Study of Nutrition Ever Conducted and the Startling Implications for Diet, Weight Loss and Long-Term Health by T. Colin Campbell, Ph.D., reveals the importance of diet in increasing or decreasing the risk of , cancer and diabetes.

The key concept here is that something can be done about your health naturally. Once you know that, it is just a matter of searching until you find a way that accomplishes that healing, but the idea that something can be done about it is what opens the door.

Microwave cooking

This information below comes from Tom Valentine, an author, and Dr. Joseph Mercola. Unfortunately, only Dr. Mercola’s website is still in existence.

According to Tom Valentine, in May of 1989 there was a radio announcement sponsored by Young Families, the Minnesota Extension Service of the University of Minnesota that said: “Although microwaves heat food quickly, they are not recommended for heating a baby’s bottle…. Heating the bottle in a microwave can cause slight changes in the milk. In infant formulas, there may be a loss of some vitamins. In expressed breast milk some protective properties may be destroyed.

“Warming a bottle by holding it under tap water or by setting it in a bowl of warm water, then testing it on your wrist before feeding, may take a few minutes longer, but it is much safer.”

Valentine goes on to report that in 1991, word leaked out about a lawsuit in Oklahoma. A woman named Norma Levitt had hip surgery, only to be killed by a simple blood transfusion when a nurse “warmed the blood for the transfusion in a microwave oven.” (Journal of Natural Science, 1998; Vol. 1 pages 2-7) Blood for transfusions is routinely warmed, but not in microwave ovens! In the case of Mrs. Levitt, the micro-waving altered the blood and it killed her.

In the Journal Pediatrics (Vol. 89, No. 4, April 1992), there appeared an article entitled “Effects of Microwave Radiation on Anti-infective Factors in Human Milk” by Richard Quan MD from Dallas, Texas and John A. Kerner MD, from Stanford. Dr. Kerner was quoted in an article summarizing that research, which appeared in the April 25, 1992 issue of Science News.

“Women who work outside the home can express and store breast milk for feedings when they are away. But parents and caregivers should be careful how they warm this milk. A new study shows that microwaving human milk — even at a low setting — can destroy some of its important disease-fighting capabilities

“Breast milk can be refrigerated safely for a few days or frozen for up to a month; however, studies have shown that heating the milk well above body temperature can break down not only its antibodies to infectious agents, but also the bacteria-digesting enzymes. So, when pediatrician John A. Kerner Jr. witnessed neonatal nurses routinely thawing or reheating breast milk with the microwave oven in their lounge, he became concerned.

“In the April journal, Pediatrics (Part I), he and his Stanford University co-workers reported finding that compared to unheated breast milk, microwaved milk lost bacteria-digesting activity, lost antibodies and encouraged the growth of more potentially disease-causing bacteria. Milk heated at a high setting lost nearly all of its antibodies, the agents that fend off invading germs.

“What really surprised him, Kerner says, was finding some loss of anti-infective properties in the milk microwaved at a low setting. Adverse changes at such low temperatures suggest ‘microwaving itself may in fact cause some injury to the milk above and beyond the heating,’ he said.”

The most significant study on microwaved food was done in Switzerland in 1992 by Dr. Hans Hertel, a Swiss food scientist. He was also a participant in the study, which included 7 others. All of whom stayed within the same hotel on the same macrobiotic diet for 8 weeks with no smoking, drinking or other consumption of food. The blood of the participants was tested before consuming anything and after consuming each type of food tested: , cooked food and microwaved food.

Food from the microwave oven caused abnormal changes, representing stress, to occur in the blood of all the test individuals. But the same foods cooked conventionally did not generate abnormal changes. Hertel pointed out that these changes were typical of the beginnings of such chronic metabolic diseases as cancer and . In particular, Hertel discovered that microwaving food:

Increased bad cholesterol levels,Decreased the numbers of red blood cells carrying oxygen,Decreased the amount of hemoglobin, the substance in the blood that carried oxygen, andProduced compounds created by radiation unknown in nature.

Hertel believes his study suggests that cholesterol may rapidly increase in the blood due to stress. He added, “Blood cholesterol levels are less influenced by the cholesterol content of food than by stress factors. Such stress-causing factors can occur in foods which contain no cholesterol — the microwaved vegetables.” In other words, eating good raw butter may not raise cholesterol levels in a healthy person as much as eating organic vegetables cooked in a microwave.

Test results were consistently on the lower range of normal in those who were tested following the eating of the microwaved samples showing anemic tendencies. The situation became even more pronounced during the second month of the study. And along with the decreasing blood values was an increase in bad cholesterol. “We can only imagine the pronounced negative changes that might occur in the bloodstreams of people who consume various microwaved foods day in and day out,” Hertel said.

This is not so surprising considering that the way microwaves heat food. Electromagnetic force is used to alternate the magnetic orientation of the water molecules one billion times per second or more. It is this furious action that causes the water to heat up. It also changes the nature of the substances involved.

In an October 1994 letter about the ill effects of microwaving food, Hertel said:

“I always marvel at people who know that microwaves are hazardous to life, but still use them. That goes for you, too. So why do you ask this question [about whether your illness was created or worsened by microwaved food]? Is it because you are still looking for arguments to continue using the microwave? [The study results on microwaved food] are hard facts, aren’t they? But I have already answered dozens of such letters from mothers using microwave ovens to heat baby food for their babies, which had already contracted leukemia, but the mothers were still not prepared to refrain from using these deadly ovens because they are so practical and convenient, as they claim.

“If you, dear friend, love your body and your life, then stop it….”

Psychiatric drugs and the Master Cleanse

DO NOT JUST STOP TAKING PSYCHIATRIC DRUGS,
with or without the !

I am often asked by people taking psychiatric drugs whether they can continue to take them or if they should discontinue them. I used to reply that, like any other prescribed medicine, they needed to consult the prescribing healthcare practitioner or seek the professional advice of another licensed healthcare practitioner.

With psychiatric medicines, it is even more important. As Dr. Donald E. McAlpine, Psychiatry and Psychology, at the Mayo Clinic said, “It’s important to taper off slowly, extending the taper over several weeks under your physician’s direction. When you stop too quickly, you may experience so-called discontinuation symptoms, which can masquerade as relapse.”

Then one day I ran across The Road Back website. Their program has been in use since 1999 and more than 30,000 people are drug-free having followed their program. So, now I send people to their website.

In 1999, James Harper, the Founder and CEO, began investigating antidepressants and the cause of their adverse reactions. He found one common denominator with every adverse reaction caused by antidepressants and all other psychotropic medication.

Now, medical doctors, psychiatrists, chiropractors, pharmacists, naturopaths, registered nurses and other health care providers use The Road Back program in their practice. Even a major university has used Harper’s first book, How to Get Off Psychiatric Drugs Safely, for their doctorate program in psychopharmacology.

Whether you are going to change your diet to 100% raw vegetables, fruits, seeds and nuts or not, this book is very worthwhile.

In Green For Life, Victoria explains the connection between alkalinity, health, and fresh raw greens. Better than that, she publishes tested recipes for green smoothies that not only taste good; but help a person lose their cravings for the “bad” food, lose weight, and sleep better.

This is the perfect book for someone who wants to eat more healthy food without a lot of extra work. My wife and I, and two friends who are not into have had four of these recipes and all of us now look forward to a green smoothie every day!

Don’t get me wrong. There’s a lot of good science explained in an interesting and easily understood manner complete with footnotes. There’s even a scientific study done in conjunction with a medical doctor in Oregon. However what makes this book shine like a jewel is the collection of great tasting recipes that anyone can use to ease themselves into a better diet.

Want to know what to do after the to improve your health, keep your weight off and take that next step? Buy this book, read it, and drink these smoothies; and you’ll be singing praises to this book just like me.

By the way, if you ever get a chance to hear Victoria speak live, do it. She speaks straight from the heart and the information is excellent.

These two books sell for $31.90 individually, but are regularly discounted 10% when they are purchased together. This week, you can save an additional 10%!

So, go to the web store and use coupon code “10offrawbkpack” (the number 10 without quotation marks) when you checkout or ask for 10% off when you place your order on our toll-free order line at 800-858-3261.
